CNC Lathes

CNC Lathes

CNC stands for Computer Numeric Control and it refers to lathes where the tool movements are controlled by a computer program.

CNC Lathes; consistent quality, more variation, and improved efficiency

The development of CNC machining has opened up new possibilities for automated production. Machining with a CNC lathe is generally much faster than with a conventional lathe. The need for modern consumers to be different has led to a greater diversity in product models and therefore smaller batch sizes. The development of the CNC lathe has made this possible.

CNC Machines have also led to quality improvement through high accuracy, low rejection, and consistent quality. The disadvantage of the CNC lathe is its high price tag. The Dutch education system struggles to keep up with the new technology because the price of these machines are too high.

Working with CNC Lathes requires training

Staff need additional training to work with CNC machines. Operators need to know how to program the software of the machine and understand their geometric complexity and the range of editing possibilities. CNC turning machines often have more than 10 axes as opposed to milling which can have up to 5 only.
